Lewis Spencer

Lewis "Dink" Spencer, 85, of Malvern, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on September 16, 2012. Dink was born August 9, 1927 in Malvern, AR to Louis "Buster" and Etta Mae Spencer. Dink had a distinguished career as a Sgt. First Class in the Army, serving three tours of duty during WWII and the Korean War. He served proudly with the Trieste Command in Northern Italy. In later years, Dink worked for 20 years at General Sheet Metal and was self-employed as an electrician. Dink was known for lending his time and talents to multiple organizations and community programs. He dedicated himself to the City of Malvern and his community as a charter member of the First JR Chamber of Commerce, the first VP of the Jaycees and former chairman of the Frontier Days Committee. He was also active in several city government organizations and a charter member of the Husky Hunting Club. Dink fulfilled his calling to do the Lord's work by working tirelessly in each of the three churches he was a member of during his lifetime. Emmanuel, Harp and South Main Missionary Baptist Church were his foundation for his faith and way of life. When Dink was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, he was elected to serve as President of the Saline District Brotherhood. Dink was also placed on the building committee, which resulted in Dink overseeing the building of a girl's dormitory at Boggs Springs Baptist Camp and a new addition being added on to Emmanuel. After some time, Dink became a member of Harp Baptist Church. One of the first things the church body did, was place Bro. Dink on the building committee. A few years later, South Main was blessed by the membership of Bro. Dink and, as you would guess, he soon became an active member of……. the building committee. Bro. Dink also served as Deacon for many years. Dink loved his family, friends, and church families with all his heart and he wanted you all to know that Ole' Dink met the Lord with his boots on… Dink is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years Marian Spencer; and his brother Bob Spencer. Dink is survived by one son, Lewis Scott (Connie) Spencer of Pine Bluff, AR; One daughter Carol Lewan (Garland) Phillips of Benton, AR; One brother George Spencer of Royal, AR; Three sisters: Nora Faye Clift of Malvern, AR, Henrietta (Jackie) Clayton of Malvern, AR, and Willa Mae Honold of Malvern, AR; Five grandchildren: Shona Spencer, Drew (Ashley) Mallard, Dustyn Spencer, Cori Phillips, and Tyler Spencer; Two great-grandchildren: Dalton Mallard and Jackson Mallard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the Atkinson Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Will Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at Cooper Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carol Phillips, Scott Spencer, Drew Mallard, Cori Phillips, Garland Phillips, and Tyler Spencer. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and many friends at The Crossing.
