Ima "Halpain" Garner Payne

Ima Jewel "Halpain" Garner Payne, age 83, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday May 24, 2012 at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born October 2, 1928 in Howe, Oklahoma to the late Charles F. and Virgie Halpain. Ima was of the Baptist faith and retired as a teacher of the handicapped / housekeeping instructor for Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center. Her loves were her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading her novels, quilting, gardening, and sewing. Her children stated that all their cloths and quilts were hand sewn by Ima and any gift that was given to her was always gracefully displayed in her home. She had a very big and truly loving heart for everyone and welcomed all she knew with open arms and a beautiful smile. There could never be a more wonderful and thoughtful mother, daughter, wife, grandmother or friend than she was all of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family. She will live on in our hearts forever. She is survived by: Sons: Terry L. Garner and William E. Garner of Hot Springs Daughters: Becky R. Teague of Fayetteville, Linda K. Bridges and Virginia D.E. Kimery of Hot Springs Brothers: Joe Halpain of Malvern, Gene Halpain of Oregon, and James Don Halpain of Missouri Sisters: Earlene Medlin, Maxine Edwards and Ruth Hancock of Malvern, Truby Medlin of Oregon, Carolyn Black of Oklahoma, Peggy Perryman of Alexandra, and Lueva Langley of Bryant. Grandchildren: Steven Reeves Jr., Jesse Bridges, Talaney Garner, Casey Garner, Renee Teague, Ashley Griggs, Marcie McCormack and Shanna Lillard Several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Melvin E. Garner, Brothers: Newt Halpain, Hoyt Halpain, and George Halpain, sister: Viola Carter and half-sister: Ida Champion Memorial service will be Saturday June 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Atkinson Chapel with Brother Matthew Gibbs officiating under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home of Malvern.
